How should I align the STEELIE socket on my phone or tablet?

How does STEELIE work?
STEELIE works by attaching a slim magnetic socket to the back of your device or device case. The device now is connectable to a precision steel ball on our mounts, or to any ferrous metal surface, like a refrigerator, toolbox, space ship or? Use your imagination! STEELIE uses 2 sizes of sockets- the small socket for phones, GPS, tools and other lightweight devices like these. The larger magnetic socket is for use with tablet computers, e-readers, etc.
Will STEELIE work with my iPhone 4 or 4S?
Yes, but your phone has a fingerprint resistant treatment on the back that can reduce the effect of the 3M adhesive on the magnetic socket. We provide a special clear insert that goes between the phone and the socket to ensure that the socket stays connected. Please specify when ordering if you have an iPhone 4 or 4s.
What about my new iPhone 5?
The iPhone 5 has an aluminum back, not glass like the iPhone 4/4s. No clear sticker required- just clean the back of the phone and stick the STEELIE Phone Socket directly to it.
Won’t a magnet damage my phone/tablet/GPS/etc?
No. Unlike old hard drives and big tube-type monitors, today’s electronics do not have any magnetically sensitive components.
Will STEELIE interfere with my NFC communications?
In our testing, we have seen no ill effects. As always, if you are unsatisfied with your STEELIE, we’ll be happy to refund your money.
When can I install my STEELIE?
Your STEELIE will work best when installed on warm (room temperature) surfaces. If your phone or tablet has been in your cold car all night, let it warm up before installing the STEELIE socket. If your dash is cold, let it warm up before installing the STEELIE dash mount.
Can I use my STEELIE right after I install it?
Yes! But don’t pull hard on the adhesive until it has 24 hours to cure. The large socket for tablets and e-readers is strong and will firmly stick your device to your fridge, or range hood, or the roof of your car. We recommend that you wait 24 hours before using anything other than our precision ball mounts.
If I don’t like where I installed my socket or dash mount, can I pull it off and move it?
Yes! But please don’t try to re-use the adhesive. Contact us by phone or email at answers@steelie.com and we’ll send you a new adhesive. For free! For the life of your STEELIE!
I upgraded to a new phone or tablet, but I can’t live without my STEELIE! How do I get the socket off my device or case?
Apply a few drops of rubbing alcohol to the adhesive where it contacts the device, and slowly work a piece of dental floss, fishing line, or even a dull butter knife into the adhesive. Apply more alcohol as required to dissolve any remaining adhesive. This technique will also work to remove/relocate the dash mount.
What other ways can I use my STEELIE?

Where should I NOT install my dash mount?
DO NOT install your dash mount on any airbag panels, for obvious reasons.
Can STEELIE damage magnetically sensitive devices?
In some cases, yes. Keep the STEELIE magnetic socket away from pacemakers, credit cards, etc. STEELIE assumes no liability for any damage.
